The Cork Harbour Festival 2018
Where: Cork Harbour
(See below for exact location)
When: 2nd – 10th June
Celebrate Cork’s rich maritime heritage
This festival is the perfect celebration of maritime heritage, it embraces everything from traditional wooden working boats, currachs, skiffs, gigs and longboats to contemporary ocean racing shells, kayaks and canoes. The event combines the Ocean to City Race and the Cork Harbour Festival in a week-long series of events that celebrate the rich maritime and cultural resources of Cork
The Ocean to City Race is a real flagship event for Cork Harbour. The 15 nautical miles race draws in a wide range of rowers and paddlers from across Ireland and beyond.
The festival is run by Meitheal Mara, which translates roughly as ”Workers of the Sea’ and the group is dedicated to the promotion and fostering of maritime culture and traditional skills. They run boat building workshops, sailing, rowing and actively encourage everyone to get out on the water.
There’s plenty of events taking place all along the river from Crosshaven to Cobh, Passage West to the City Quays. With plenty of come and try events, cruises and challenges, boats tours and more there’s something for everyone on and off the water.
